I was actually more concerned about occipital lobe trauma as I biked around various points in Norman on New Year's Eve with champagne stowed in my backpack. Things were a little frantic right after work where we sold a bottle of Dom and almost all of our champagne before noon. I biked over to the rec fields for a quick barefoot jog, then headed straight to the Library for beers. There was a festive but small crowd on hand as we were there a bit early, but some dude did stumble in and offer free tickets to the Flaming Lips New Years Concert. The house Kona Stout on tap is greatly enhanced by the N2 charge and I actually think I preferred it to the current IPA. After some beers w/ Spenis, Trev & Shirley, and Skolnick, we headed to a Lebanese fundraiser dinner which was great and featured all the standards from that line of cuisine. Unfortunately, we were forced to skip out on dessert, which I'm still bitter about, as it was catered by La Baguette. Next I watched the Y2K simpsons special with Skolnick and popped a decent Brut. I celebrated the actual ano neuvo at a buddies house-party and managed to bike home and into the new year, unscathed.
I guess I should come up with a summary post for the past year and maybe some hopes for the new one. I've been a little unhappy with the last few months for the obvious reason that I'm not able to train or even run without pain. I had, from a training perpective, my best summer ever but overdid it. I wasn't able to capitalize on my training investment, but despite never healing up or getting back into training, I at least put it on the line at the 3rd annual McNellie's Pub Run and got a victory at the local Turkey Trot. I like to run but it's been such a burden lately that I've really taken a step back and will get healed before diving in again. My running goal is just that, getting healed up and then putting together more concrete race plans.
I will say that this blog has been an enjoyable outlet and I intend to continue its publication. I have also been motivated by my neighbors' candid renderings in the blogosphere and with any luck Trevor Gillum will join the fellowship. Setbacks have been a commonality this year but I have had alot of fun in other regards and I shall prevail. At the very least, I'm happy with the beer that I've been brewing lately and maybe someday this outlet will bring me fame and fortune. I've taken it upon myself to act as a martyr to the Norman community in terms of running/biking and maybe I can bring culinary betterment to my adopted community. More on that to come...
