the agenda

My next race on the horizon is going to be Tulsa Run. Unfortunately my race last weekend at the Prairie Fire 1/2 didnt pan out, but the bright side is that I ran a couple nice workouts prior to it and reminded myself of the importance of rest. I also had a fun time at the event, in addition to sleeping in my car, as there were some other buddies running the event and I randomly bumped into some family as the finish line and am hoping to reconnect with them. I also am going to go ahead and mention that I'm set to run the Santa Barbara International Marathon on November 10th. In selecting the event, I was after one that would be a race scenario, rather than a time trial and since I don't know the area very well, it will serve as a nice little exploratory visit. I felt like it is time to get back on the marathon horse but I haven't necessarily slated my training how I might have in previous leadups and so I hope to bring a different perspective to the table and also allow myself the opportunity to take another swing at a long race early next year.

Interesting mentionings of note:
1. It is imperative that people are aware of good beer
2. Jenny came across this last week while she was conferencing in the twin cities
3. I'm soured on the political state of this country, remind me how and why is everything Obama's fault? I don't understand how the bulk of people that are complaining of problems would think Mitt Romney is the better prospect.

Just to the Right

That would be the theme for last night's outing to OKC with der boys. The trend of feeling off continues to overwhelm and I can't help but chalk it up to the "smorgasboard effect." Contemporary wisdom tells us that fusion is all the rage and who am I to blow against the wind? At some point however, I think that can lead to an assemblage frought with gastronomic peril and, worse, something that gives little Scotty D a tummy ache. Cue the scene, we had put down a few stouts and pale ales prior to departure from Stu's. I, of course, was lauded for my incredible driving ability over the perhaps 2 mile route to Cheever's. Upon arrival we ordered a couple bottles of vino and some apps. I think this is where the trouble began. The first combo would be the Malbec/Hummus/Fried Calamari/Pinot combo only to be outdone by the proceeding Merlot/Nacho/Pecan, Chocolate,& Ice Cream Ball conglomeration. Stu knew something was up and opted for a jog back to the house where ...

ride the wave

I hit the track this morning for some work. It was another nice morning but I can't imagine the humidity abating for long. Jordan and Meagan had matching workouts of 4-8-12-16-16-12-8-4 w/ 60 second rest. The paces prescribed were quick and I didn't run great but I tried to hang with Jordan on the middle reps. I should hopefully be able to substantially improve on my efforts this morning and maybe feel better doing it. I did something like a 200-500-1100-800-1600-1200-600-200, I wasn't happy with missing out on the first 1600 but I had to break for the restroom and I at least touched on some faster paces on the other reps. The recovery made it a pretty honest effort and I at least was able to sneak below 5:00 pace. My goal for the summer is breaking 15:00 so we'll see what happens. The picture above is my uncle's digital rendering of a wave complete with a frigate bird. I think he used only Adobe throughout the process.

Where are you tonight, Sweet Trevor G.?

So, in neglecting to press forward with a summer abroad in the US, I unfortunately missed out on a brief return trip to Missoula, Montana and Grand Teton National Park with good friend and current Albuquerque resident, intellectual, and donut king, a one Professor Trevor Gillum. True, the confidential Army funded study that Skolnick and I took part in pretty much completely soured our impression of the UNM HES dept. but Trev extended exceptional graciousness in putting up with our antics for 5 or 6 weeks in his extreme efficiency apartment and man we have some fond memories of last summer. Of course, the summer before that is when I was able to spend a few weeks in Montana and found it to be an amazing place to which I will definitely return. If you are reading this good buddy, I hope you're living it up and making the most of your brief relent from the call of duty in the Duke City. Bobby Dylan would be proud. So in other news, Jordan and I rattled out a decent little 8mile tempo ...
